The proposals are contained in the UK Internal Market Bill currently being debated at Westminster. The UK government said Scotland could still set its own regulations. The Scottish government has said the bill is a “power grab” from Holyrood.

It is designed to ensure trade can be carried on unhindered in each of the four home nations once the UK severs its ties to the EU.The UK government has said the bill would give a level playing field for businesses across all parts of the UK and represents “the biggest transfer of powers in the history of devolution”.
