Insight

The construction industry is witnessing a revolution with the introduction of Renco building blocks, a sustainable and efficient building material. A team of 11 unskilled laborers recently completed a 96-unit apartment building in Palm Springs, Florida, in under two months, showcasing the material’s effectiveness.

Renco, a blend of repurposed glass, plastic, calcite dust, and resin, offers a durable alternative to traditional construction materials. Developed in Turkey and used in over 100 projects since 2012, Renco’s entry into the U.S. market marks a significant milestone.

Coastal Construction, a South Florida-based contractor, played a pivotal role in bringing Renco to the U.S. Executive Vice President Patrick Murphy recognized the potential of Renco to withstand Florida’s hurricanes and initiated the import. Despite bureaucratic hurdles and extensive testing for safety and environmental standards, Renco proved its mettle, especially in hurricane resistance.

The ease of construction is one of Renco’s most notable advantages. The blocks, which come in various sizes, can be assembled with simple tools and color-coded instructions, making them accessible for non-professionals. This feature addresses the current shortage in skilled construction labor. The adaptability of the system allows for a range of architectural designs, from luxury hotels to affordable housing.

Renco’s impact extends beyond construction speed and cost-effectiveness. Its eco-friendly composition aligns with sustainable building practices. Coastal Construction has opened a production facility in Florida with a capacity to produce enough blocks for 5,000 apartment units annually. With ongoing discussions for diverse projects nationwide, Renco is poised to redefine the construction landscape.
