Stage two of the Cavenagh Street Heat Mitigation Project is now underway, which aims to revitalise the Darwin CBD through cooling and greening initiatives such as the installation of a heat reflective road surface.

According to the Northern Territory Government, heat mapping shows Cavenagh Street is one of the city’s hottest locations. The heat reflective road surface aims to reduce pavement temperature, while the planting of new trees in the area – also part of the second stage of the project – also aims to provide extra cooling measures.

The works complement the Cavenagh Street shade structure which was completed in late 2018 – the vines planted with the structure are now starting to climb, it is anticipated that full coverage will take up to 18 months.PTM Construction is undertaking the stage two works, which form part of the territory government’s $100 million commitment towards the Darwin City Deal initiatives.
